For a long time, I thought I was chasing photographs.

The more time I spent outside, the more I realized I was really chasing something harder to describe, the feeling of being completely present.

Some of my favorite mornings begin long before sunrise. Sometimes I come home with photographs I'm proud of. Sometimes I don't.

What stays with me isn't always the photograph. It's when the living world quietly unfolds, revealing something that could only be found if I'm fully present.

Gary in the Wild is a collection of stories, films, and reflections from those moments, when the living world quietly taught me something worth remembering.
